Heather Kegel is a Boulder-based ceramicist who makes functional pottery, often decorated with colorful desert scenes. Heather and I connected over Instagram and I visited her studio and shot a few images of her process. After throwing the vessel and letting it harden slightly, Heather draws her scene into the clay, and then follows up with carving to make the scene three-dimensional. Eventually, she glazes the pieces, yielding bright, stylized scenes of cacti and mesas.
